Directive RoHS
RoHS and the new EU Drinking Water Directive
For many years, the EU has been reducing the maximum permissible levels of substances hazardous to health in products. The RoHS directive (Restriction of hazardous substances, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restriction_of_Hazardous_Substances_Directive) serves this goal in connection with electrical and electronic equipment. The EU Drinking Water Directive leads, among other things, to new regulations for water pipes, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directive_98/83/EC. Switzerland has also issued corresponding regulations, in the Chemicals Risk Reduction Ordinance (ORRChem, https://www.bafu.admin.ch/bafu/en/home/topics/chemicals/info-specialists/bans-and-restrictions-on-use.html). The sensible removal of substances that are hazardous to health, such as lead, leads to major challenges in processing. The materials to be drilled and machined are becoming harder and more brittle. As we can show with many practical examples, diamond tools are often the solution. Are you looking for a suitable tool for your specific application, we will be happy to help you.
